The ebb and flow of life…
Give and Take
The ebb and flow of life…
Although sometimes it can seem as though there is only one direction of movement – when it rains, it pours – the truth of the matter is that balance is always inherent. What can at first disguise itself as too much of one thing is actually only a smaller part of the greater whole.
In order to be in harmony with universal flow, we must first learn the art of taking in, and then of letting go once again. While most of us are good at taking in, we have somewhere along the way forgotten what it feels like to be emptied out as well…how to give and receive in perfect unison. Our bodies naturally breathe in and out, yet our minds have grown desperate in the quest to take in more and more. In moments when we find ourselves feeling full, it is likely because we have taken in too much. This may be too much work, too much drama, too much stress – even too much of a good thing can knock us out of balance. When we feel ourselves becoming tight with tension, or attaching to the outcome of situations, it is a sign that we need to take a step back and realize that something needs to be released so we can become healthy again.
Just as a wave rolls in and then gently out again, so is the natural rhythm of life. Imagine a wave that tries to fight rolling in – one that wants to stay at sea instead….can that one, small wave really contend with the tremendous power and force of the entire ocean? It is only a matter of time until the wave must relent, and follow its path into shore. We, as humans, experience the same phenomenon. Can we really affect the greater plan significantly by putting our brakes on? We cannot always see the bigger picture of what is being unveiled in our lives, but we can be sure that our souls have asked for all of our experiences so we are granted the opportunity to grow into richer, wiser beings who know of our intrinsic value and worth. Resisting where we are is no different than turning off the light and wondering why we cannot see. Our pain comes only from wanting things to be different, but we can exhale the pressure we feel in one breath, simply by falling into balance again.
In order to be in harmony with universal flow, we must first learn the art of taking in, and then of letting go once again.
