Giving Up and Letting Go

Our first breath of freedom…

We have grown up in a world where we are taught to persevere at all costs…to do whatever possible to follow our dreams while relentlessly pursuing the affections of our hearts. What we rarely hear is that peace is all that matters. We believe that we cannot have peace until we have first achieved steps 1, 2 and 3. What we are learning now is that there is faulty thinking present in this formula of ours – that we cannot realize the dreams in our hearts while our minds are fraught with tension and the fear of not getting it ‘right’. We are realizing the importance of becoming immersed in the richness of the present moment, rather than being stuck in the past or waiting in anticipation for the future.

We are encouraged now to practice the art of letting go – letting go of everything that we are too stubborn to give up, while understanding that it is our very clinging and resisting that brings forth our greatest suffering. We need to make room instead for flexibility, and for letting things be as they are. Letting go does not mean giving up, nor do we fail when we choose to be free of self-imposed restrictions.

Universal cooperation is strategy for a life well-lived. We have been created to experience peace and tranquillity, despite any worldly chaos that is seemingly at work. A still mind is a content mind and takes only a little practice to befriend. We don’t become peaceful because our lives have fallen into place; rather we choose to be peaceful so that our lives CAN fall into place. Our first breath of freedom comes in letting go of who we think we should be, and instead being led gracefully into who we already are.

What we rarely hear is that peace is all that matters.
